Madison is one of the most attractive tourist destinations for the tourists of all over the world as it offers a range of historic buildings, museums and mesmerizing sightseeing. It has a varied and colorful history.

The Winnebago tribe was the first inhabitants of the area and they lived along the Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. The city of Madison was named after in honor to James Madison, the former president of the United States. The settlers of the area used to live in wagons while their log cabins, sod houses, or dugouts were built. In 1867, the county was officially organized and Norfolk was chosen as county seat. Immediately after the organization of county, many settlers moved to towards it.

According to estimation the population of the area is around 228,775 people in July 2007. Madison exhibits continental climate with a wide temperature range. In winter the temperature falls down to 40 degrees and in summer it raises to 110 degrees.
